Global Supply Chain Shifts: 2026 Outlook

The conflict in Iran is driving a sharp rise in petrochemical and plastics prices by disrupting both supply and logistics across key global trade routes. With major flows of feedstocks like naphtha and polymers moving through the Strait of Hormuz, shipping bottlenecks, suspended exports, and damaged infrastructure are tightening availability. At the same time, freight rates and insurance costs have surged, further increasing the delivered cost of materials.

These combined pressures are pushing up prices across the petrochemical chain, from base chemicals to finished plastics like polyethylene and polypropylene, with some downstream sectors already seeing cost increases. Higher fuel prices and constrained supply are creating an environment, where producers face margin compression and buyers are forced to absorb or pass along rising costs throughout the value chain.
